SkyMall

During our recent flight to New York, having exhausted all other entertainment possibilities, I took to browsing the SkyMall catalogue which was to be found in our seat-back pockets. Imagine my surprise to find such a cornucopia of delights, a small selection of which can be seen below.

I don’t feel the need to comment on the images as I think they speak for themselves, but suffice to say that I want them all (indeed, a couple of them would have come in handy during the flight itself).

  1. hmmm…. I hesitate between then branding iron and the “pillow”… ;-)

  2. The feetie pajamas for adults are KILLING me. And I kind of want some.

  3. There is nothing here that is not IWUS-worthy. Well, except maybe the pajamas. If I was the PJs kind of guy, I would probably want some, in spite of the hateful orthografee.

I’m a bit curious: had you never encountered the SkyMall phenomenon before? Is it only an American thing, I mean? Because I feel like I’ve been assaulted by a flying Sharper Image catalog for decades now. Though I have to admit, the items on offer do seem more IWUS-y than I recall…

Thank you for sharing this. The branding iron especially.

  4. I love SkyMall so much. It’s the best thing about flying.

  5. sgazzetti: I’d never seen this particular catalogue before, although we have equivalents in the UK.
Oh, and I’m the PJs kind of guy, but I’d never countenance wearing Jumping Jammerz. No, not even the ones with the very masculine guitar motif. No, not even if I found myself “sipping hot chocolate in Aspen”.

  6. The new background photo, by the way, is the food-porniest thing I have EVER seen.

  7. I LOVE skymall - makes me feel so exclusive… like… no one else would have weirdo gadgets like that anywhere… unless they shop at skymall. Welcome back!!

Oh, my friend and I will be arriving in Tokyo april 22nd and leaving on 28th.

  8. I love those PJ’s (uh, so not). Too funny Simon.

  9. Was it the branding iron and the yeti statue that would’ve come in handy during the flight?

  10. Emily - the branding iron, certainly. I could have used it on the guy in the seat behind me.
