That’s is pretty sweet. I can’t believe that a search on YouTube for dorodango returns zero results. At least this page gives more step-by-step photos.
Not surprising that this tradition comes from the same country with the extreme boredom and creativity necessary to produce origami.

This was my favorite line in the instructions (emphasis mine):
The shining capsule is prepared using a powdery component of soil. It is dust raised by beating the ground. It consists of micro particles less than 1/1000 mm in diameter.

I like the social aspect too:
“Items you must have – Company with whom you can chat and work together.”

Simon’s coworker: “Hey, Simon, you got any plans for the weekend?”
Simon: “Yeah, me and my best mates are gonna get together an polish our balls. This one bloke’s got a big brown one that I can’t wait to get my hands on…once it dries, of course. You can definitely expect some dirt under my fingernails on Monday morning…”

And I trust that you will fully explore all those possibilities for us, Erik.
