No-vember

The trees are all pretty much completely bare around here now (well, the deciduous ones, obviously), so I’m just in time for the obligatory “Isn’t autumn photogenic?” post.

A recent family walk in a nearby park yielded plenty of “Oooh – pretty colours!” moments…

as well as one “WTF?”

At one point we sat under a tree for a snack and noticed a couple of girls on the other side of the park taking some photos of their own. For some reason they seemed uninterested in the beauty of nature surrounding them.

They were there for quite some time, trying out a bewildering variety of poses.

    Great fall foliage pictures!

I’ve started paying more attention to pre-college aged girls as a kind of research into what is in store for me as a father. The phrase “bewildering variety of poses” cracked me up, because it’s such a spot-on description of this sort of behavior. I thought it interesting that you said the girls “seemed uninterested in the beauty of nature surrounding them” when they seem to be engaged in an essentially aesthetic pursuit.

      1) thanks.
      2) I was a bit worried at first when I read “I’ve started paying more attention to pre-college aged girls”…
      3) But yes, I know what you mean. My two will be teenagers before the end of the next decade, and I’m already mentally preparing myself: for the telephone bills, the exclusion from the bathroom for hours on end, the no doubt puzzling and shocking fashion choices. And I’m sure by then they too will spend hours striking poses for their 3D cameras and sending the resulting holographic images to their friends living on the lunar colony…
      4) Point taken – they are engaged in an aesthetic pursuit. It was just a different one from almost everyone else in the park that day. And in fact they could have stayed at home and done it in their bedrooms for all the difference it would have made to the resulting pictures.

    Love your leaves. 🙂

They probably wanted a pretty background for their facebook page, where they were posting their pics.
